"Do you think Facebook has peaked in integration...
Someone asked me this recently. I don’t know; Facebook has lots of room for innovation and can work its way into my life in other ways with a few simple steps. This question came back to me this morning when I remarked to myself “man, I follow a ton of people on Pinterest!” I realized that I follow a ton of people b/c of Pinterest’s tight integration with my Facebook...

OH:
Her: Women are, objectively, better at wrapping presents then men.
Me: You know what else they’re better at? Caring for babies and cooking and scrubbing things and making basketball unentertaining. YOU ARE THE WORST FEMINIST EVER!!!1!!1!
You don't have to be miserable.

We can’t all have our dream jobs, that’s for sure. I do, however, think it is entirely possible for everyone to have a job that they at least *like*. Maybe you’ll never get to do exactly what you want, but you sure as heck can try to find something that doesn’t kill your soul. Not entirely kill it, anyways.
I guess we’ll find out, someday.

Oof.
I don’t call *all* of the shots in my life, and I make many decisions by not deciding anything at all.
Today, however, I’m faced with a feeling that I recognize by the fact that I don’t feel it very often: complete impotence. I feel utterly disempowered. Nothing I can do will change anything. I didn’t think it would be this depressing. It feels like a hallowness, like...

Thin comfort
Every once in a while, I make a prediction. The outcome I predict isn’t the one I want - I’m predicting, too often, that someone will let me down or that something, usually outside my control, won’t turn out as hoped. I never enjoy being wrong as much as I do when these gloomy conjectures turn out to be wrong. Confirmation bias tells me that my unfortunate hunches are, more often...

“Just pick ‘em. No theme, no shtick, no particular order necessary.”
It’s way more challenging than I’d have thought - my back catalog is ridiculously dusty. I just need to recognize that I’m the kind of person who listens to shiny new music and get Rdio (leaning that way vs. Spotify b/c my entire life is in my browser anymore and Spotify’s ads drive me...
Is This the Future of Punctuation!? →
markcoatney:
By contrast, use of the semicolon is dwindling. Although colons were common as early as the 14th century, the semicolon was rare in English books before the 17th century. It has always been regarded as a useful hybrid—a separator that’s also a connector—but it’s a trinket beloved of people who want to show that they went to the right school.
More surprising is the eclipse of the...
